- Abstract:In this paper I attempt to clarify from a Buddhist perspective a key ethical principle relating to a diversified family structure and same-sex marriage. The movement calling for the legal recognition of same-sex marriage is primarily motivated by a desire to solve the difficulties faced by same-sex couples relating to their inability to legally marry, and this motivation is in consonance with the Buddhist emphasis on compassion and the removal of suffering.
