Dr. Lei Cao received the B.Eng. degree in Electronic Information Engineering in 2007 and the M.Eng. degree in Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technology in 2009, both from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China. Supported by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), he pursued doctoral studies at the Institut d'Electronique Fondamentale, Université Paris-Sud (now Paris-Saclay University), France, and obtained the Ph.D. degree in Physics in 2013. He has been with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, HUST, since 2013, where he is currently an Associate Professor at the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Electromagnetic Technology. From June 2022 to June 2024, he was a visiting scholar at the Physics Institute of Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany.


Dr. Cao's research focuses on microwave and terahertz (THz) science and technology, with particular emphasis on detection, spectroscopy, imaging, and sensing applications. 


Dr. Cao warmly welcomes motivated international students to join his group for Master's and Ph.D. studies, as well as short-term or long-term research internships. Students with backgrounds in optics and photonics, physics, electrical engineering, microwave technology, or communications engineering are especially encouraged to apply.
