My research direction at HUST is bioinformatics, primarily through computational methods and integration of multiomics data to identify clinically meaningful genes and/or microbial species and develop new experimental methods to manipulate them for practical applications.

The current main directions include:

  • Research on the relationship between human (gut, skin, digestive tract) flora (bacteria, fungi, phages) and disease and prognosis, as well as function and mechanism exploration;

  • Research on the relationship between animal (ruminant) digestive tract (stomach, large and small intestine) flora and disease, development and key traits, as well as function and mechanism exploration;

  • Metagenome functional mining;

  • Genetic modification of bacteria and phages for drug delivery, cancer treatment and diagnosis;

  • Precise regulation of microbial flora and real-life and clinical applications;

The research group is mainly dry lab, but works closely with microbiology laboratories, clinicians, hospitals and businesses.

The research group recruits 1~2 master students and 1 doctoral student every year, and at least 1 postdoctoral fellow.

Applicants who are interested in joining the research group can send applications directly to my email; applicants must have the following skills:

  • Python

  • R

  • Linux and queuing systems like SLURM or QSUB

  • Website and database development with VueJS, MySQL or popular frameworks

Preference will be given to those with the following research experience:

  • Metagenomic analysis;

  • Phageome analysis;
