Professor Xu Xinhua serves as the vice dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology..
In 1994 and 1997, he obtained his bachelor's degree and master's degree from Hunan University respectively. In 2005, he obtained his doctoral degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. From 2006 to 2008, he engaged in postdoctoral research at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Since 2008, he has been a professor at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
He mainly involves research topics on the theory and technology of active and passive heat insulation of new building envelope, building thermal and humidity characteristics, building energy conservation and utilization of renewable energy, environmental technology of confined spaces, application of artificial intelligence and big data mining, optimal control and fault diagnosis of building and air conditioning systems. He has presided over more than 60 scientific research projects including three general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one doctoral program funds. He has published more than 200 academic journal papers, including more than 100 SCI-cited papers. He has been authorized more than 20 patents and published three English monographs and two textbooks. In 2009, he was selected as a "Chutian Scholar" by the Education Department of Hubei Province. In 2011, he was selected into the "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program" of the Ministry of Education. In 2012, he was selected as a "Huazhong Scholar" of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
He is an editorial board member of international journals "Buildings", "Discover Mechanical Engineering", "Scientific Reports", and domestic core journals "Building Science", "HVAC", "Chinese Journal of Ship Research", and "Civil Engineering". He is a member of the HVAC Branch of the Architectural Society of China, the director of the Youth Committee of the Wuhan Refrigeration Society, and the vice chairman of the council of Hubei Refrigeration Society, a member of Hubei HVAC Committee. He is a communication reviewer of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, an evaluation expert of international cooperation projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology etc.
Professor Xu Xinhua has repeatedly guided undergraduates to participate in the "National Built Environment Discipline Award for Colleges and Universities" professional basic competition, the CAR-ASHRAE student design competition, and the MDV central air-conditioning design and application competition, and has won many awards such as the first prize and the talent award. Undergraduate graduation projects under his guidance have also won provincial and school excellent graduation designs (theses) many times.
