Profile

Rui Guo, from Zhongxiang, Hubei Province, is an Associate Professor and doctoral supervisor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on zero-carbon communities and grid resilience, climate-adaptive building envelopes, and smart district energy systems. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Chongqing University in 2014 and 2017, respectively, and earned his Ph.D. from Aalborg University, Denmark in 2021. From 2021 to 2024, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at KU Leuven, Belgium.

He has led one national overseas talent recruitment project and one National Natural Science Foundation of China project, and served as principal investigator on two EU Horizon 2020 projects, the IEA Annex 80 initiative, and Belgium's ICON Flux 50 project, among other major international collaborations. He has published over 30 academic papers, including more than 10 as first/corresponding author in top-tier SCI Q1 journals such as Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews and Applied Energy. His publications include one monograph, one EU policy brief, and six authorized patents. He serves as a guest editor for SCI journals including Buildings and as a distinguished reviewer for over 10 SCI journals including Applied Energy and Energy Conversion and Management.

He maintains strong academic collaborations with Aalborg University (Denmark), KU Leuven (Belgium), Université Paris-Saclay (France), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA), and China Academy of Building Research. These partnerships provide outstanding graduate students with opportunities for internships, academic exchanges, and joint training programs.

He warmly welcomes diligent and dedicated students from disciplines such as Architectural Environment and Energy Application Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy and Power Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics to apply for doctoral and master's programs. With extensive experience in undergraduate innovation projects and academic competitions, he invites undergraduates to join his research group for scientific training and provides guidance for academic competitions including the Challenge Cup and Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction contests.
