It is critically important to maintain the systemic acid-base, fluid and salt homeostasis in the body. CO2/HCO3– system accounts for up to 70% of buffering power for acid-base disturbance. The research in my lab focuses on the biophysics and physiology of acid-base transporters, mainly a group of Na+-dependent HCO3– transporters (NBC) of the Solute Carrier family 4 (SLC4).
